Brig. Gen. James Schreffler

Brigadier General Schreffler received his commission through ROTC in 1991 upon graduating from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. Initially branched into the Chemical Corps, he attended the Chemical Officer Basic Course at Ft. McClellan, AL and served as the Battalion Chemical Officer for the 2-135th AVN BN, COARNG. He received a branch transfer to Aviation after completing flight training at Ft. Rucker, AL in 1995. In 1996 he joined the MOARNG as a member of the 1-135th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion.

During his career, General Schreffler has held a variety of positions to include Platoon Leader, Battalion Chemical Officer, Company Commander, numerous battalion and brigade staff positions, Commander of the 1-135th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, Deputy Commander of the 1107th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Deputy Commander of the 70th Troop Command, and most recently, Commander of the 1107th TASMG. In June of 2008 BG Schreffler deployed to Kosovo as part of KFOR 10 and served in NATO HQ- KFOR as the J3 Air - Chief of Helicopter Operations. He deployed again in 2013 as commander of TF Reaper, the only full - spectrum aviation task force in RC-N, Afghanistan. His most recent deployment was to the Middle East in 2019/20 as the Group Commander of the 1107th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group in support of Operation Spartan Shield and the CENTCOM area of responsibility.

General Schreffler is qualified in the UH-1 Iroquois, the AH-1 Cobra, and the AH-64 A & D model Apache helicopters. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (Silver Hourglass and “M” device), NATO Medal (2), the Army Senior Aviator Badge, the German Armed Forces Military Efficiency Badge and the Silver Order of St. Michael.

General Schreffler holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Benedictine College, a Master of Science degree in Aviation Safety from the University of Central Missouri and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

General Schreffler is employed by College of the Ozarks in Pt. Lookout, MO as an Associate Professor of Military Science/Patriotic Education and is currently the Assistant Adjutant General-Army for the Missouri National Guard.
